Obituary for Robert Dix Money

Robert Dix  Money
Robert Dix Money, 87, husband of Alice C. (Wilson) Money, of Wethersfield, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 in St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Soldier Summit, UT, son of the late Clifford and Wilhelmina (Gross) Money. Robert served in the US Navy from 1944-46 and then attended Mesa Junior College (now Mesa University) in Grand Junction, CO. He worked as a Brakeman on the DR&G Railroad which led to his love of trains and train travel. In 1949 he entered the US Border Patrol Academy in El Paso, TX. Upon his graduation, Robert began a career as a Patrol Inspector and later an Investigator that took him to Fort Hancock, TX, Rouses Point, NY, Chicago and San Francisco. In 1960, he completed Advanced Officers College and was assigned to work with the State Dept. investigating immigration fraud. In 1965, Robert was appointed the Officer in Charge at Reno, NV and two years later promoted to Assistant Director for Investigations for Hartford where he remained until his retirement from the Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1980. He then joined the International Institute of Connecticut where he helped to establish a satellite office in Hartford and was a US Department of Justice Accredited Representative to practice before the Immigration and Naturalization Service for the clients of the Institute until he retired in 2007. Robert is an Honorary Member of AILA, a Life Member of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association, member and former secretary of the Fraternal Order of Retired Border Patrol Officers, member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, member of the American Legion #23 of Wethersfield, former Secretary and Life Member of the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill BPOE #2308 and a volunteer and librarian for Wethersfield Public Access Television, Channel 14, in addition to being a active Boy Scout leader and supporter for many years. Besides his wife of 45 years, Robert leaves a son, Robert J. Money and his wife Kristi, and their children, Christopher and Katherine Money, Alison (Sloan) Hall and Lindsey Sloan, all of Reno, NV; as well as his mother-in-law, Gladys E. Wilson of East Hampton, CT. His love of travel took him around the world and as he said “have passport, will travel”. He enjoyed life through his travels by train, ships, plane and automobile. His greatest joy was his love of home, family, and his many, many friends around the country and foreign places, Especially Kristin and Yuhang Rong and their furry companion, Jack. Friends may call Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 4-8pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Border Patrol Museum, 4315 Trans Mountain Rd., El Paso, TX 79924-3753.
