Obituary for Irene Cohen (Piggott)

Irene (Piggott) Cohen, 92 of West Hartford (formerly of Farmington and Hartford) entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital, West Hartford. Irene was born August 4, 1922 in Hartford, daughter of the late Mary (O’Connell) Piggott and Daniel Piggott. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Myer Cohen, sharing 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together they had two daughters; Janis Cohen Savage and her husband Martin Savage, M.D., of West Hartford and Lois Cohen Carey of Winsted. Irene retired after 33 years from the Southern New England Telephone Company where she made some lasting friendships. She had a love for singing and dancing, as well as telling her grandchildren stories about life in the southend of Hartford. She was predeceased by her siblings, Andrew Piggott, James Pickett, Lucille Cleary and Mary Zaccagnino. Irene’s life was filled with family and many good friendships. The highlight of her life was her doting grandchildren, Sean Savage and his wife Kristyn, Ryan Savage and his wife Rachael, Kevin Savage and his wife Allison, Patrick Carey and Kathleen Carey. Her special bonuses were her great grandchildren Mako, Owen, Aubrey and Moorea Savage. Irene also leaves a very special friend, Amelia (Mamie) Kearns whom she spoke to almost daily and has been a friend since early childhood. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family on Sunday, March 15 from 3-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Irene’s life will be held Monday, March 16 at 10am in the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St., Farmington (attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Mass in Riverside Cemetery, 160 Garden St., Farmington.
