Bom-Wrapper

The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Fr. David Lonergan can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

A Special Weddinig

I met Father Dave at the University of Hartford in the late 1960's when he was the college chaplain.  I was the student trainer for the basketball and baseball teams, and because of his love of sports, Fr. Dave was always involved in attending athletic events, playing in pick-up games, intramurals and other sports related activities.  I met my future wife Joanne in my freshman year and when we decided to get married after graduation I asked Fr. Dave if he would officiate.  Since Joanne was not Catholic, that presented a problem, particularly in 1971, but he said he would somehow make it work.  We were going to be married in Milton, Mass. which made it even more complicated.   He put together all the necessary paperwork and got the approvals from both the Archdiocese of Hartford and Boston.  Fr. Dave made the two hour drive to Milton and along with Rabbi Al Axelrod, the famous liberal chaplain of Brandeis University, married us at my wife's home on July 4, 1971.  This event was quite unusual for that time for both religions, but I'll never forget how Fr. Dave helped to make it happen.  I know our families were very appreciative of what he did.  We'll be celebrating our 44th anniversary next July and we have three wonderful children and five grandchildren, so he did a good thing!  Even though I haven't been in touch with him over the years, I will always remember what he did for us.  After reading some of the things he's done in his parish assignments, I know that otheres have been lucky enough to have been associated with him as well. Joanne and want to express our sincere sympathy to his family, and we know there is a special place reserved for him in Heaven.
