Dr. John Francis Chapman, Psy.D, 52, a lifelong resident of Wethersfield passed away suddenly at home on March 29, 2015. He was the son of the late Charles P. and Dorothy (Wynne) Chapman, Jr. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his sister Doranne (Dee) Chapman and his niece Shannon Marques of Morehead City, North Carolina, his fiancé Doreen Lewis and her son Conner Lewis of East Hartford, his aunt Marion Wynne, his nephew Joshua Petig, two beloved rescue dogs, Max and Gracie; as well as six cousins, their spouses, and children. He also leaves behind countless friends and colleges, too many to mention. He graduated in 1980 from South Catholic High School. He graduated from CCSU with a B.A. in psychology in 1985 and received his master’s degree in Clinical Practice in 1987 and his Doctorate of Psychology in 1992 both from the University of Hartford. For nearly 20 years John was a member of the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Association, and was the founder and coordinator for the WVAA Explorers Program. He was an EMT, EMTI, and EMS Instructor. John was a member of the American Psychological Association since 1993. He began his career as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University School of Medicine. From 1990-1999 John held various positions at the New Haven Juvenile Detention Center. From 1999-2014 he held numerous positions working for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Court Support Services Division. From 2008-Present John was Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCONN School of Medicine. Until his death John worked as a Private Consultant for numerous State and European Agencies. In 2008 John received the Dedication to Public Service Award from the Judicial Branch. During his career, Dr. Chapman was involved with countless professional seminars, lectures, and publications. Friends may call on the family Monday April 6, 2015 from 4-8PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday April 7, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St, Wethersfield. All are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd. Bloomfield, CT.
John was an exceptional human being who enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.
