William John Bandzes of Wethersfield, husband of Joan (Borzage) Bandzes passed away peacefully Sunday, February 17, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was born in New Britain, son of the late Andrew and Julia (Skarnulis) Bandzes. Bill was a graduate of New Britain High School and the University of Hartford. He served honorably in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne & Infantry Division. After thirty seven years as an IRS agent, he retired from the Internal Revenue Service. In his younger days, he played basketball, softball and baseball. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and photography. He also was an avid Villanova basketball fan and lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. He was very proud of his Lithuanian heritage. Joan and Bill traveled extensively visiting over thirty European countries, Hawaii and most of the fifty states. He especially enjoyed spending his summers at Lake Williams and wintering in Cocoa Beach, FL. For eighteen years, he served as Treasurer of the Wethersfield Men’s Garden Club and was also a member of the Professional Internal Revenue Retiree’s Association of Connecticut. In addition to his wife Joan, he leaves his daughters Cheryl Pazdar and her husband Craig of South Glastonbury, and Amy Muratore and her husband Louis of Glastonbury; his three loving grandchildren, Chase Pazdar, Ella and Jack Muratore. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Carl Borzage and his wife, Barbara of Windsor Locks and sister-in-law, Maxine Vandrilla and her husband Fred of Berlin and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Bandzes and his sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor & John Plamondon. Funeral Services will be held Thursday February 21 at 10 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT. (all are asked to meet directly in Church). Burial will follow at Village Cemetery, 1 Marsh St. Wethersfield, CT. Friends and relatives may call on the family Wednesday, February 20 from 4 – 7 pm at the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center Fund, c/o Fund Development Dept, 80 Seymour St, P.O. Box 5037, Hartford, CT. 06102-5037.
