Obituary for Virginia Lucy "Ginny" Larkin (Peatie)

Virginia Peatie Larkin, wife of James Peter Larkin, died at her home in Cromwell on February 21, 2015. Ginny was born in Hartford, the daughter of the late James Duncan and Helen Elizabeth (Donovan) Peatie. She attended St. Augustine’s and Bulkeley High School. She began her college studies as a teenager, but didn’t finish her degree until she was in her 50’s. Ginny graduated Summa Cum Laude from Central Connecticut State University with a B.A. in Psychology, where she was inducted into Psi Chi and was named Valedictorian for the Psychology Department. For 10 years, Ginny was the director of the Corpus Christi Church Folk Group in Wethersfield. The group sang each Sunday at both Holy Family Retreat Center in Farmington and at the noon Mass at Corpus Christi Church. Ginny spent most of her career in the insurance industry with marketing positions at Phoenix Mutual, Connecticut Mutual, GroupAmerica, Union Fidelity Life Insurance Company and GE Capital. She ended her career at Nutmeg Big Brother Big Sisters. During this time, she made many life-long friends. Ginny’s life was enriched by her family. Before she met and married the love of her life, Jim Larkin, her focus was on her extended family and she felt blessed to be a big part of the lives of her siblings and nieces and nephews. When she married Jim, she became a step-mother to his grown children and subsequently a grandma to six children. Ginny was also blessed to be a part of a large close-knit family. Ginny leaves behind her beloved husband, James P. Larkin, her sisters A. Denise (Rice) Wyer of South Wellfleet MA, Barbara D. Peatie of Holliston MA, Denise’s children Bill and Michelle Rice and their children Patrick, Conor, Sara and Keegan of West Simsbury CT, Tim and Tina Rice and their beautiful girls Olivia, Fiona Mae and Lucy, Mike and Heidi Rice and their children Liam, Sean, Catie, Colleen Rice and Jake Bombace of Milford, Catherine (Rice) and Doug Gallo and their children Hannah, Jack and Grace of Franklin MA, Jennifer Peatie and daughter Kaylie Thompson of Hyannis MA, and Robert Peatie and son Jordan Henderson of Martha’s Vineyard MA. She also leaves her beloved step-children, Beth (Larkin) and her husband Dr. Barry Ceverha and their children Tyler and Luke of Rancho Palos Verdes CA, Claire (Larkin) Holcomb and children Kyle and Madeline of Temecula CA and Peter Larkin and Jennifer (Robella) Larkin and their children Quinn and Kendall of Hebron CT. She also leaves her cousin Jenifer and Bill Kirkpatrick and their son Iain of Dunfermline, Scotland, as well as many Donovan and Dunne cousins in CT, MA, RI and elsewhere. "She was predeceased by her brother James S Peatie." Visiting hours will be held at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield on March 7 from 9am to 10:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. The family would also like to thank all of the doctors and caregivers, especially Tracy Levesque, who helped Ginny in the final months of her life.
