Thomas W. Dobruck, 63, of Granby died peacefully on Wednesday, February 13th after a courageous battle with cancer. The love of his life and best friend was his wife of 29 years Kathy (Jaikey) Dobruck. Tom was born in Hartford, the son of the late (Anna) Louise Dobruck and Charles Dobruck. Besides Kathy, Tom is survived by his brothers Timothy and Dennis Dobruck and his wife, Mary. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles; John Feery, Donald Dobruck, Eileen Dobruck, Shirley Hart, Kay Atkins and numerous Dobruck cousins. His favorite people, besides Kathy, were his four nieces, their husbands and their families: Kristina and Mack Morton, Melissa and Don Reilly, Jeannie and Andres Sarda and Karen and Eric Inkel. He loved being an honorary grandfather to his great nephews and great nieces: Jack Corona, Matthew and Mackenzie Inkel and Alexis Morton. He was so looking forward to the arrival of two more great-nieces later this year. A graduate of Hartford High School and CCSU, Tom worked at Loctite/Permatex for 27 years. One of his favorite memories was being the Permatex hand model. Throughout his career, Tom cherished the friendships he made with his colleagues and clients, most notably Jay Blake. He so admired Jay’s “Follow A Dream” foundation. Kathy and Tom were inseparable and enjoyed traveling including trips to San Francisco, Bermuda, Aruba, and all beaches, and also touring light houses. Tom spoke fondly of copiloting a small plane last October. Tom followed sports and was avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees and UCONN Women’s Basketball. Tom had an especially close relationship with his brother Dennis and the two spent many hours chatting on the phone about their lives and sharing funny stories about the “good ole days.” Kathy and Tommy loved being a huge part of their nieces’ lives, attending their sporting events, school functions, and graduations, and were always ready to take a “mystery ride”. Tom loved to send postcards to his nieces, and then to his great nephews and nieces detailing his adventures. His resume also included a stint (1973-1978) as the Operations Manager of “Parkville Airlines”. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to CMG Oncology and the nursing staff at Masonicare, most especially Maria Santos, for the compassion extended to Tom and his family. Calling hours will be held at Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield on Friday, February 15 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway Wethersfield. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Toms’s name to the Gastro Intestinal Cancer Program Fund at Smilow Cancer Hospital, Office of Development, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. His love, his spirit, his infectious laugh, his storytelling, his very strong will and his joy for life will be around forever.
