Obituary for Robert C. King

Robert C. King
Robert C. King, 89, husband of Agnes (Sullivan) King of Wethersfield, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 in Hartford Hospital. Born in New Castle, Canada, his family moved to Hartford while Bob was an infant. He attended Bulkeley HS and was a long time resident of Hartford’s South End until moving to Wethersfield in 1992. During WW II Bob saw action in the Pacific Theater as a Marine Gunner on the USS Oklahoma City. After WW II he returned to Hartford and joined the Hartford Fire Department where he retired with the rank of Lieutenant. Bob then worked at the Little Aetna in Hartford and later at CIGNA in Bloomfield until full retirement. Bob was devoted to South Catholic HS basketball where he ran the game clock for almost twenty years. At age 55 Bob took up the game of golf and it became his passion. Even after he was physically unable to play, he could often be found at Goodwin Park Golf Course to be with friends and watch the sport that he so enjoyed. To the end Bob always had a smile on face and a joke on his lips and yes, he did once fly a small plane under the Bulkeley Bridge.
Bob was predeceased in death nine days earlier by his daughter Cathy. Besides his wife, Agnes, he leaves a son Robert D. King and his wife Kim of Charlotte, NC, a grandson Ryan King and his wife Nina of Charlotte, NC and two granddaughters, Mackenzie King of Charlotte and Whitney Held and husband Steve and their two daughters Tatum and Tenley of Waxhaw, NC, along with wonderful nieces and nephew and numerous friends.
Calling hours for Bob and Cathy will be held on Friday January 29, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating their lives will be held at 10:00 am Saturday January 30, 2016 in St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St. Hartford, CT.
