Obituary for Patrick Joseph Crowley Jr.

Patrick Joseph Crowley Jr.
Patrick Joseph Crowley, Jr., 63, beloved husband and best friend of Diane (Doucet) Crowley, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Patrick was born in Hartford on May 12, 1952, to the late Patrick J. and Katherine (Sweeney) Crowley. Raised in Hartford’s South End, Patrick attended St. Augustine Parochial School and graduated in 1971 from South Catholic High School. He attended the University of Connecticut prior to being drafted into the Army. He was stationed in Europe and served as a member of the Military Police during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a private first class and came home to complete his education at Central Connecticut State College. It was there that he met his wife of thirty-six years and the love of his life. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics with a minor in history. Patrick was a voracious reader, history buff and lover of music. His affinity for books and music was something he gladly shared with sons nieces, and nephews. Patrick retired after thirty three years from the State of Connecticut, Department of Revenue Services, as a Tax Unit Manager. During his retirement, he and Diane enjoyed the open air and country roads of New England, New York State, and parts of Canada, on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Patrick was past treasurer of St. Brigid Parish Council and Home School Association. He is survived by his four sons: Ian and his wife, Lora, of Magnolia, DE; Morgan and his partner, Isis Irizarry, Brennan and Dylan, all of West Hartford; and his grandchildren: Cera, who was the sunshine of her Poppy’s life, Alexa, and Rey. To Patrick, family was of utmost importance; he was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his sister Sheila Crowley Oakes of East Hampton; his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Marilyn of CA; his sister-in-law Armida Crowley of Portland; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Louise and Richard Bernhardt of NC; his father-in-law Alderic Doucet of Canada. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, especially his godchildren, Kevin Cunningham, Timothy Oakes, Karen Rullo, and Faith DeFrances, as well as his many city and country cousins from the Crowley and Sweeney clans, along with relatives in Ireland. Patrick was predeceased by his sisters Patricia and her husband Patrick Cunningham; Maryellen and her husband Valentine Scott; brother Kevin Crowley; brother-in-law Russell Oakes; godson Christopher Crowley, niece Susan Crowley and nephew Valentine Martin Scott.; and mother-in-law Therese Doucet.
In his memory, Patrick requests that everyone “wear a bit o’ the green.”
