Obituary for Michael J. Cullina Jr.

Michael J. Cullina Jr.
Michael J. Cullina, Jr, husband of the late Veronica (Berthiaume) Cullina, of Hartford, passed away March 20, 2015. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Michael J. Cullina, Sr. and Bridie (Quinn) Cullina and lived in the area most of his life. Mike joined the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict as a Seaman 1st Class aboard the USS Missouri and the USS Macon. Prior to his retirement, Mike worked at Wethersfield Manor. But his happiest years were those spent while working at Augustine School. There he watched his children grow-up and got to know many of the families. He was a graduate of St Augustine and it was important to him that his children be raised with the same Christian values. His family and his faith were the most important parts of Mike's life. He was an avid sports fan, following the Red Sox, NY Giants, NE Patriots and never missed a UCONN Men's or Women's game. Mike made his home at Ellis Manor where he had many close friendships. He enjoyed bingo, bowling and loved helping people. He was a gentle spirit and always had a kind word or words of encouragement and would end his conversation with I am praying for you. He was President of the Resident Council and made sure to bring residents' concerns to the administration. But most of all his friends at Ellis Manor were his extended family where he loved and was loved by many. Mike is survived by his son and two daughters, Michael J. Cullina, III and his wife Patricia of OK, Debbie Lucas of Vernon and Donna Cullina and her spouse Carmen Cotto of Wethersfield. Mike also leaves 5 grandchildren, Trina Gould, Carrie Lucas, Jena D'Amico and her husband Danny, Megan Penry and her husband Zachary, and Eric Cullina, 5 great-grandchildren, Richard, Austin, Christian and Brandon, and Matthew, a sister, Nancy Towns and her husband Tom, a cousin, Bert Johanson and special friend Judy. Friends may call Friday March 27, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at 10:00 in St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave. Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave. Hartford.
