George E. Wislo, MD, husband of Krystyna (Gryszkiewicz) Wislo, of Newington, passed away Wednesday July 31, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Karol and Josephine (Swietek) Wcislo of Poland. After moving to the United States at age 12, George graduated from Trinity College, the University of Connecticut Medical School, and completed his residency at the University of Michigan. Sports were a great passion of his -- especially soccer. George managed and played goalie for the Hartford Polish Soccer Club. Also a runner, George finished over 1000 races, including at least 30 marathons. Always a gardener, George will be remembered most for his prized tomatoes. In addition to his wife, George leaves a son, Steven D. Wislo of New York, NY, a daughter Valerie P. Wislo, MD of Pittsburgh, PA and a sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Paul Casarella of Rocky Hill. He also leaves two nieces and their husbands, Cynthia and Christopher McHugh of Glastonbury, Stefanie and Vinnie Giarratara of Wethersfield and a nephew and his wife Mark and Lisa Aglieco of Glastonbury. Dr. Wislo’s family extends special thanks to his many friends at St. Francis Hospital, most notably his colleagues in the Radiology Department, where he worked for 34 years. Friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday August 2, 2013 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday August 3, 2013 at 10:00 am in S.S. Cyril and Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Ct, Hartford, CT 06106. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield, CT 06002. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, 95 Woodland St. Hartford, CT. 06105 or the S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church Fund, 55 Charter Oak Ave. Hartford, CT 06106.
