Marjorie Ann Shields
Marjorie Ann Shields, daughter of the late James and Ann Shields, died on February 22, 2014. She was born in Hartford on July 15, 1927 and was a resident of the South End of Hartford all of her life. She graduated from St. Augustine School and was a member of St. Augustine parish for many years. Marjorie later became a member of St. Luke Parish. She graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1945 and chose to pursue a career in nursing. Marjorie was accepted into the nursing program at Hartford Hospital, graduated in 1948 and worked at Hartford Hospital for over 30 years. In 1951 she became the night supervisor on the pediatric floors. Besides her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by her brother James , who was killed in the Normandy Invasion of World War II. She leaves behind her sister Ruth, with whom she made her home along with several cousins and their families; Charles Creem and his wife Patricia of New Hampshire; Rosemary Donadio of Fl; Elizabeth Rogers and her husband Alan of FL; Mrs. John DuPuy of New Haven; and Mrs. Alberta Brown and her husband Arthur of Branford. She also leaves her very best friends, Faith and Jean O’Keefe , her wonderful next door neighbors, Carlos and Maria Vega and her long time friend Molly Chenade. Marjorie was an avid reader and she loved to discuss current events and politics. There was never a question about where she stood on an issue. She followed UConn Basketball, but her true passion was for the Boston Red Sox. Marjorie enjoyed summers along the shore in Branford and vacation trips to the Cape. In the final days of her illness, Marjorie showed the true meaning of courage. She was a warm, generous and caring person and she will be missed by all who knew her. Thank you to all friends and family members who sent her cards and it was a comfort to her to know she was loved by so many. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Luke Parish, 66 Bolton St. Hartford CT 06114.
