Leonard H. Hanson, 91, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Harriet (Griswold) Hanson passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 16, 2009. Born March 14, 1918 in West Hartford, he was the son of the late Carl Albin and Anna Paulina (Pearson) Hanson, formerly of Newington . He proudly served in the Governor’s Horse Guard. Afterwards he was employed by A.C. Peterson as a delivery man, and then for 23 years as a major account rep. for the H.J. Heinz Co. His love of boating led him to sell boats for local dealers well into his 70’s. Leonard’s hobbies were sailing, gardening, cutting wood, the Boston Red Sox, and amateur radio. He also was a long time member of the Masons Newington Lodge. Along with his loving wife Harriet of 62 years, Leonard is survived by his sons; Gary of Wethersfield, Craig, and grand dog Danilo of Lyme; sisters, Betty Lamo of Wethersfield, and Alice Hinton of East Hartford; as well as many other loved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Unfortunately, his beloved daughter Lyn H. Hanson predeceased him on February 19, 2009 after a long courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service celebrating Leonard’s life will be held Thursday August 20, 2009 at 11:00am in the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations are made in Leonard’s name to Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
