Leo P. Frechette, Jr. passed from this earth on Friday, January 17, 2014 in his home surrounded by family. He was born Jan. 31, 1927 son to the late Leo P. Frechette, Sr. and Hazel Evelyn Bartlett Frechette. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Gerrie Grisel Frechette. Gerrie was Leo’s very first love. She was 16 when God brought her to him, and they were married on May 28, 1949 at St. Rose Church in East Hartford. Leo leaves behind 6 children: Terri Frechette-Brainerd (husband Bob), Fr. Rick Frechette, C.P., DO (Passionist priest and physician), Steve Frechette (wife Dawn), Donna Camera, (husband Ken), Kevin Frechette (wife Dawn) and Keith Frechette. In addition to his children, Leo leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister Pat Santilli, his brother Tom Frechette, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 younger brothers who both passed in 2013. Leo served his country in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 and spent his career with Royal Typewriter until his retirement. Both Leo and Gerry spent time in Haiti with their son, Fr. Rick Frechette, who has worked there for over 25 years. They spent many hours volunteering their time and help in the orphanage in the mountains, cleaning up after storm damage or building housing for the many lost children. They were both vocal advocates for their son and the plight in Haiti. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Frechette family, Monday, January 20, 2014 from 5-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. The funeral procession will commence at 10:15am from the Farley-Sullivan, Tuesday, January 21, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Leo’s life at 11am in Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Ave., Wethersfield. Interment will follow the Mass in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 31), 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Luke Foundation for Haiti at www.stlukehaiti.org, or by mail to The St Luke Foundation for Haiti c/o: Donna Camera, Financial Services Volunteer, 178 Knollwood Rd. Manchester, CT 06042. There are no administrative fees, donations are tax deductible and 100% of donations go towards the health and education of people of Haiti.
