Laurette (Madore) Soucie, of Manchester, died July 12, 2009. Born on July 5, 1917 in Fort Kent, Me., she was the youngest of Pierre Maddox and Agnes Beland Madore’s eight children. Mrs. Soucie was predeceased by 6 siblings; her husband of 43 years, Wilbert; and her daughter, Carline. She and her family moved to East Hartford in the early 1940s and, in 1942, with the outbreak of World War II, she, like many women of her generation who filled the void created by men that answered the call to arms, went to work at Pratt & Whitney. She worked there until retiring in 1977. Her family mourns, yet celebrates, the long life of their loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and the joy she took in cooking, baking, sewing, reading and telling stories about growing up on her family farm in northern Maine. Laurette leaves her sister Emily (Madore) Brown of Manchester; sons Frank W. Soucy of East Hartford and his wife Priscilla and J. Gilbert Soucie of Old Lyme and his wife Joyce; grandchildren Lisa Dion and her husband Michael, Marabeth Soucie, Carrie Soucy and Joseph Soucie; and great-grandchildren Timothy Dion, Jeffery Dion and Ashley Soucie.
