John G. Tennant, 71, loving husband of Mary (Savage) Tennant, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born April 18, 1941 in Hartford, son of the late Alice (Glynn) and Vincent Tennant. He grew up in Hartford and graduated from Bulkeley High School. John served in the US Army from 1961 through 1964. He joined the Hartford Police Dept. in 1973, retiring in 1997. During his tenure at HPD, John served in the Patrol, Booking, and Warrant Divisions. He enjoyed traveling and cruising with family and friends, playing cards, and trips to the Mohegan Sun Casino. The biggest joy in his life was watching his grandsons play various sports. John could always be found at one of their baseball games. Besides his wife, John leaves two daughters, Karen Battaglini and her husband Doug, of South Windsor, Kelly Tennant of East Hartford; two grandsons Steven and Thomas (TJ) Battaglini, of South Windsor; his brother Ray (Buddy) Tennant and his wife Gail, of Farmington; his nieces and nephews, Lynda & Robert Rogers, Bill and Mary Olesky, Ray, Amy, and Jim Tennant, and a special great niece Katlyn Rogers. He also leaves his friends Bill and Jackie Hippe, Gerald and Sharon Kumnick, and Art Bouchard, who all were an important part of his life from the HPD through the end. Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Rogers and Beverly Olesky, and a nephew, Edward Olesky. Friends and relatives may call on the family, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 5-8pm, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating John’s life will be held at 10am, Thursday, April 26, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd., East Hartford (All attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 23A), 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill.
