John Lawrence Stabiler Jr., 88, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Jeannette Therese (St. Pierre) Stabiler, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Jefferson House in Newington, CT. John was born on August 15, 1927 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was the son of the late John Lawrence Stabiler, Sr. and Lena Agnes (Termini) Stabiler. He lived for over 30 years in Hartford, before moving to Wethersfield. John was a Navy Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the military he attended the University of Hartford, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering. He also attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, receiving a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.John enjoyed mathematics. One of his greatest challenges was working to solve Fermat’s Last Theorem. John worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Kaman Aircraft and Hamilton Standard, then as a teacher/tutor in math and science for many years. In addition to his wife Jeannette, John will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family: three daughters and their spouses, Mary Ann Newton and her husband James of West Simsbury; Catherine Grandahl and her husband Robert of West Simsbury; Jane Podolski and her husband Ted of Coventry; son John T. Stabiler of Ashford; eight grandchildren, James and his wife Tracey; Thomas Newton; Tyler and his wife Kristin; Andrew, Austin and Rebecca Grandahl; Stephanie and James Podolski, a great grandchild Tegan Newton as well as a sister Rita Stabiler of West Hartford. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield has been entrusted with John’s arrangements.
