James Patrick Duffy, 88 of West Hartford, husband of the late Veronica (Kelly) Duffy died peacefully Sunday February 3, 2013. He was born in Hartford son of the late William and Mary (Carlon) Duffy and lived in the area most of his life. Jim was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School in Hartford and Hartford Public High School, Class of ’42. He then served in the US Naval Air Corps during WWII. He attended Fairfield University, in the 1st class, then graduated from the University of Miami, Class of 1950. Jim boxed while in the Navy then later for the University of Miami. Prior to his retirement, James worked for the Liggett Meyers Co. and The National Globe Newspaper. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and loved college football as well as UConn Women’s basketball. He is survived by his daughter, Maryellen Duffy of West Hartford, his three sons,; James F. Duffy and his wife Mary Lou Touhy Duffy of West Hartford, Peter M. Duffy of West Hartford, Robert J. Duffy of Bloomfield, two granddaughters, Audra (Duffy) Battistini and her husband Chris of Hartford and Allison (Duffy) Froggatt and her husband Steve of FL , a great-grandson, Carter Froggatt and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Laurie Duffy, two brothers and their wives, William and Mary Duffy, Peter and Adelaide Duffy and his sister Ruth Beaulieu. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law Delia Kelly and two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Shea and Mary Roback. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment services will be private. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield has care of the arrangements.
