Henry C. Winiarski, Sr. Husband. Father. Grandfather. Great Grandfather.WWII "Silent Service" Veteran. Chemical Engineer. And, lastly, fervent thoroughbred handicapper and cigar connoisseur. Henry passed away peacefully on November 18th due to advanced lung cancer. He was born, raised, and lived in Hartford almost his entire life. For the last several years of his life he lived in Wethersfield, though those closest to him knew he loved Hartford more than Mark Twain. Hank attended Bulkeley High School and St. Anselm's College. He served in the U.S. Navy, Submarine Service, from 1942-1945 and was discharged with honors and endless stories and priceless memories. He worked as a chemical engineer for Allied Chemical Corporation, DeBell and Richardson, American Cyanamid Corporation and United Technologies - Hamilton Standard Division. He was a member of Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE). During his career, he published papers, delivered presentations, and filed for patents. Henry was predeceased by his wife, Mary Kozlowski Winiarski, and his siblings Frank, John, and Marion Winiarski. He leaves behind nine children: Henry C. Winiarski Jr. of Hartford; Eva O'Brien and Tim, her husband, of West Granby; Kathy Winiarski and Thomas Spratlin, her husband, of Cheshire, Massachusetts;John Winiarski, Stephen Winiarski, and Paul Winiarski of Wethersfield, all of whom dutifully and selflessly cared for Henry in the later years of his life but especially Paul; Juliane Winiarski of South Windsor; Martin Winiarski of Willimantic; and Matthew Winiarski of Beverly, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Emma Winiarski, Erica Smith, Hilary Winiarski, Stephen Winiarski, Jr., Justine Winiarski, Melissa Borofsky and Ricky Borofsky, Julie Winiarski and Martin Winiarski Jr. along with great grandchildren Lily Litwinko and Olivia Ramos. Henry was a lover: he loved his Cadillac, cigars, Trader Joe's, 88.9 FM, Lake George, horse racing everywhere, but especially Saratoga, exotic and homemade soups, and all kinds of Polish food. But most of all, Henry loved his wife and family and put her and them first above everything else. The funeral will be held Thursday November 21,2013 at 9:00 am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in SS.
