Helen (Fitzgerald) Rago, 89, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Nicholas Francis Rago Jr., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her home. Helen was born January 2, 1924 in Hartford, the daughter of the late William and Ellen (Fitzgerald) Fitzgerald. She graduated from Hartford Public High School, earned her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph College and received her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Throughout her life, Helen continued her involvement in numerous college, church and community activities. Of her many accomplishments, her most cherished was that of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will forever be remembered by her loving family: Mary Ellen and Richard Smoragiewicz of Glastonbury, Nicholas and Carol Rago of Glastonbury, Joan Rago of Rocky Hill, William and Kathleen Rago of Burlington, Anne and Louis Presutti of Glastonbury, Robert and Fredda Rago of Wethersfield and Brenda and Randall Slayton of Wethersfield; her fifteen grandchildren; Kathryn, Kristen, and Gregory Smoragiewicz, Nicholas and his wife Amanda, Melissa and Timothy Rago, Matthew and Brian Rago, Michele and Mary Ann Presutti, Michael and Joseph Rago and Jessica, Christina and James Slayton; as well as her great grandson, Nicholas Rago. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her sister, the Honorable Mary Fitzgerald Aspell, and her grandson Christopher Rago. Helen’s family will receive relatives and friends TODAY, Friday, December 13, 2013 from 4-8pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 8:30am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Helen’s life at 9:30am at St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Interment will follow the Mass in the family plot at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section S-Ext), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield.
