Helen Theresa S. Golden, 86, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Philip S. Golden, passed away peacefully Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. Mary Home with her family by her side. Helen was born, January 13, 1926 in Port Chester, NY, daughter of the late John and Mary (Reilly) Sullivan. Her family relocated to Washington, CT where she graduated from Washington High School. Helen assisted her father, caretaking on the estate where her family resided, and where her fondness and passion for gardening began. Helen and Philip grew up in Washington, where they met and started their life together. It was always a very special place for them filled with many happy memories. They married in 1946, moving to West Hartford in 1964, where she was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Prior to her retirement two years ago, she was employed by the United States Postal Service for over 40 years and developed many long lasting friendships. She had a deep love for her faith, family, and friends. She was known for her generosity and kindness towards all whom she met. Her extraordinary devotion to her faith was evident in all that she did. She always looked to help those less fortunate than herself and instilled this belief in her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener who was known for her beautiful landscaping. She shared her secrets and love for gardening to her children who carry on her passion for gardening today. Helen will be fondly remembered by her family; Philip S. Jr. and Fran Golden, of Trumbull, Mary Golden of MA, Anne and Robert Wills of Newton, MA, Daniel and Jean Golden, and Regina Golden, all of West Hartford, sister Margaret Haynes of NJ, dear niece, Alice Jo Hilliard of San Jose, CA; eight adoring grandchildren, as well as five cherished great granddaughters. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was predeceased by two sons, John and James Golden. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield on Thursday, March 15th, from 9 to 10:15am, at which time the funeral procession will proceed to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, for a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Helen’s life, at 11am. Interment will follow in the family plot at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section W), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield.
