Hans-Joachim Frauendorf, 78, of Wethersfield, CT husband of Ruth (Butterfield) Frauendorf, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, in Hartford Hospital. Born in Harrow-on-the-Hill, England, he was the son of the late Curt and Hildegard (Schmidt) Frauendorf and came to the United States in 1959. An accomplishment Hans was very proud of was becoming a United States citizen in 1964. Prior to his retirement, Hans was employed as the Executive Chef of The Hartford Club for 31 years. He was a member of the Connecticut Chef’s Association, The American Academy of Chefs, Les Amis d’Escoffier Society, a board member of The Hartford Saengerbund and an active member of First Church of Christ, Wethersfield. Besides his wife of over fifty years, Hans is survived by a son, Curtis Frauendorf and his wife, Louise of Portland, a daughter, Leah (Frauendorf) Fuqua and her husband, Lee of Newington and five grandchildren, Alan, Mitchell and Connor Frauendorf and Erika and Amber Fuqua. He also leaves three sisters, Lieselotte Schneider and her husband, Wolfgang of Austria, Annegret Pfeiffer and Hannelore Hoeth of Germany and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 5-7 pm Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, CT. A memorial service honoring Hans’ life will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:00pm. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Church of Christ, 250 Main St. Wethersfield, CT 06109.
