Genevieve Ann “Gen” (Zavaski) Poltorak, 84, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Frank J. Poltorak, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Rocky Hill. Genevieve was born August 27, 1927, and raised in Rocky Hill; she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Pauline (Gonglewski) Zavaski. She was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1945, where she was an extremely proud member of the Women’s Basketball team, playing center. She lived and raised her family in Wethersfield for 55 years, returning to Rocky Hill in 2004. Genevieve was employed by the State of CT in the Higher Education and Insurance Departments, retiring in 1989. Gen was a very active member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, volunteering an abundance of time and effort with the Home and School Association, along with church events and activities. She was a member of the SS. Cyril & Methodius Ladies Guild, holding several offices, and positions, as well as serving on many committees over the years. She was also a member of the Polish National Home of Hartford. Genevieve was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and sister-in-law. She will be fondly remembered by a daughter, Linda Ann Poltorak of Wethersfield; two sons, Joseph Poltorak of Rocky Hill, Paul Poltorak with his wife, Judith Campbell Poltorak, of West Hartford; four cherished grandchildren, Meredith, Andrew, Katherine, and Harrison Poltorak, all of West Hartford; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Hacia, and Mary Poltorak, both of Hartford; several nieces, nephews; along with great and great, great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Genevieve was predeceased by two sisters, Sophie Sliva, and Bridget Sobeleski; three brothers, Henry, John, and Edward Zavaski, and their spouses. The Poltorak family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nurses and Staff of Maple View Manor. Gen’s family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 5-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Funeral Procession from Farley-Sullivan will begin at 9:00am on Wednesday, August 1st, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford, CT 06106. Interment will follow in the family plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 32), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. Memorial donations may be made in Genevieve’s name to the SS. Cyril & Methodius School, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
