Obituary for Francis B. Rohde

Francis B.  Rohde
Francis B. Rohde, 91, a resident of Wethersfield since 1956, passed away May 3, 2015. He was a devoted husband to the late Mary (O’Neil) Rohde until her death in 1996. He was born on August 10, 1923, son of the late Frank and Anna (Byrnes) Rohde. He lived in East Hartford, attended St. Mary School and graduated from East Hartford High School, class of 1941. Francis worked in Pratt & Whitney until World War II, when he joined the U.S. Marines, serving in the South Pacific. Upon returning home, he worked in the US Post Office in Hartford while attending the University of Connecticut extension in Hartford. In 1946, he started working for the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation, retiring in 1989 after 43 years. Francis was a devout Catholic and communicant at Sacred Heart Church in Wethersfield. When his wife Mary passed away, he made a generous gift to Sacred Heart Church, after which the parish hall was dedicated in her memory. He loved spending time with his family, especially the card games and was also a big fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball. Francis leaves his sister, Bernadette and her husband Kenneth Senerth of Glastonbury and their five children; Ken and Diane Senerth of Delaware, Mark and Susan Senerth of West Hartford, Joe and Pamela Senerth of Colchester , Frank Senerth of East Hartford and Mary and Mark Keegan of East Hartford. He also leaves 9 dear grandnieces and nephews; Emily, Julia, Mark, Amy, Jim, Jeffrey, Douglas, Olivia and Ian and a great grandniece Elizabeth and great grandnephew Jonah. Francis also leaves his cousins Myles and Peter Byrnes of East Hartford and Carl Morgan and his family of Wethersfield. The family wishes to thank the Carrolls; Fran’s next door neighbors for their thoughtfulness and care over the years. Also, for the excellent care he received from the nurses, aides and staff at Emeritus at Mountain Laurel of Glastonbury as well as the Vitas Hospice Care. Fran will be remembered as a kind, caring and generous man, who will be missed by many.
Friends may call on the family Wednesday May 6, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, CT. The funeral will be held Thursday May 7, 2015 at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Ave. Wethersfield, CT. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery Marlborough St. (Rte 66), Portland CT. Memorial donations in Francis’ name may be made to Corpus Christi School, 581 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
