Obituary for Elvira G. "Vera" Colaneri

Elvira G. Colaneri, (Vera) 96, longtime Wethersfield and West Hartford resident, peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Hebrew Health Center in the company of her niece. Elvira was born August 28, 1920 in Hartford Hospital and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late Camillo and Claudina (Colaneri) Colaneri. Elvira was a bright, advanced student, graduating from Bulkeley HS Class of 1937, two years early at the age of 16. She went on to McKeown’s Business College, which lead her to employment in the insurance industry. She was a bond underwriter, beginning her career at the American Surety Insurance Company and retiring after a 44 year career from the Aetna Insurance. Vera spent many years in the 50’s and 60’s as a ballroom dance instructor for Sobey’s and then Ryan’s Dance Studio in Hartford. She spent her summers at the CT shore at both Terra Mar and Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook. Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending time with them. Elvira will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, a sister Marie (Colaneri) Moran; niece Lisa Moran Franklin and her husband Julian, all of Enfield; two adored great nephews Zachary M. and Evan R. Franklin, whom she held a special place in her heart for. In addition to her parents, Elvira was predeceased by her brother in law, Robert E. Moran. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 1pm in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section J), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. Elvira’s family would like to thank the entire staff of 4 North at the Hebrew Health Center for their compassion and care, especially Nurse Campbell and CNA Beverly McKenzie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, CT Chapter, PO Box 718, Old Mystic, CT 06372. Elvira’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield. To extend online condolences and/or light a memorial candle, please visit farleysullivan.com.
The tide recedes but leaves behind
Bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
Warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains….
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains
