Elizabeth A. Lawton (Leist) Kocol, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Romuald Kocol, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Elizabeth (Betty) was born September 22, 1934 in New Britain, daughter of the late Gladys (Walsh) and Edward Leist. She graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1952. Betty will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her loving children, Mary Kocol of Somerville, MA, John Kocol of Worcester, MA, Theresa Longo and her husband Steven, of Rocky Hill; three adored granddaughters who were dear to her heart, Rachel, Katelyn, and Alyssa; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia and David Strong, and Rita Dawley; a sister-in-law Kay Lavigne; and many other family members and dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was predeceased by a brother, Edward Leist,and a brother-in-law Robert Dawley. Prior to her retirement, Betty worked for the State of Connecticut for over 27 years. She was a dedicated volunteer to many organizations,including, St. Agnes Home Guild of West Hartford, where she actively supported the mission of the organization: helping young mothers and their babies, and the Polish-American Democratic Club. In recognition for her volunteer efforts, Betty received the United Polish Societies of Hartford Polonia Distinguished Service Award in 2011. Betty was a faithful communicant and member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church and its Ladies Guild, the Polish Cultural Club, the Polish National Home, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 119 Ladies Auxiliary, and the AFSCME Union, all of Hartford. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the kind and dedicated staff of Hartford Hospital’s Harry and Helen Gray Cancer Center. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family TODAY, May 30th from 4-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 31st at 10:00 am in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Ct, Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to the Church). Interment will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Sec. 28), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Elizabeth’s name to St. Agnes Home, 104 Mayflower St., West Hartford, CT 06110.
