Edward McCartan McGarvey 88, of Rocky Hill, the husband of the late Elizabeth (Dunn) McGarvey, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side Saturday, October 19, 2013. Born in Patterson, NJ, son to the late Joseph and Charlotte (Henderson) McGarvey, he resided in the Hartford area most of his life. Following his graduating from Bulkeley High School Class of 1943, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, serving from 1943 to 1946, in the Southwest Pacific, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippians. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Providence College, graduating with his Baccalaureate degree in 1950. Ed then married, Elizabeth Dunn and settled in Hartford to raise a family. Ed worked for 10 years for the Chandler Evans Company and then from 1971 until he retired in 1990 with the City of Hartford his last position being with the Hartford Police Department as a Fiscal Officer. Sharing in their loss are his children, Mary McGarvey Wisniowski and her husband Wesley of West Springfield, MA, E. John McGarvey of Hartford and Elizabeth McGarvey Tylki and her husband Darius of Wethersfield, his eight loving grandchildren; Jason McGarvey Wisniowski of West Hartford, Alexis McGarvey Wisniowski of NY,NY, Charles Adams of Stamford, Bryce Adams and Connor Adams both of Trumbull, Daniele McGarvey Tylki , Max McGarvey Tylki and Emily McGarvey Tylki all of Wethersfield. Ed also leaves his brother, Joseph T. McGarvey and his wife Maureen, as well as his nieces and nephew, Debbie McGarvey Torraason and her husband Jim, Trisha McGarvey, and Kevin McGarvey and his wife Cathy all of Chicago, his son-in-law, Joel Adams of Trumbull and a dear friend and partner Elaine Ammerman of Bristol, CT. In addition to Ed’s wife and parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Kelley McGarvey Adams and his son, Daniel F. McGarvey. The funeral will be held at 9:00 am Wednesday October 23, 2013 from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield followed by A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 66 Cottage St., East Berlin, CT at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
