Obituary for Edward F. "Ed" Dillon

Edward F. "Ed"  Dillon
Edward F. “Ed” Dillon, beloved husband of Beverly C. Dillon, peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015. He retired as a Captain from the Hartford Fire Department in 1994 after 31 years of dedicated service. In addition to his many years as a line firefighter and officer, Ed served with the Fire Marshall’s Office, obtained his certificate as Fire Inspector as well as being certified as a Connecticut State Fire Instructor, where he served for 2 years in the Training Division. He was also a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and attended many fire-related classes during his 31 years on the department. He was a member of the Emerald Society, the Police and Firefighter’s Association and the Firemen’s Benevolent Society. Ed was the son of the late Elizabeth and Thomas Dillon, who was also a retired Captain of the Hartford Fire Department. Ed was raised in the South End of Hartford, attended St. Peter’s School, continuing his education and graduating from Holy Trinity High School in 1955 then the Institute of Accounting in 1957. He worked at Combustion Engineering Co. prior to joining the Fire Department in 1963. Ed and Bev traveled extensively during their retirement to most of the US states and Europe. They also bought a beautiful condo in Daytona Beach, Florida, where they lived for about 2 years. Ed leaves his wonderful sons, with whom he was very close to and proud of; Edward Jr. (Ted), Thomas and his wife Karen, Timothy and his wife Lynn, and Shawn and his wife Nicole. They all graduated from Wethersfield High School, where they played football and baseball. Ted, Tom and Tim were Captains of the varsity football team in their respective senior year, and Shawn was Captain of the varsity baseball team in his senior year. In addition, Ed also leaves his wonderful grandchildren who he loves very much; Brandon, Stephanie, Patrick and his wife Tina, Alexis and Louie; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Cathy and their children, Michael and his wife Herome and Kyle and his wife Allison and their children. The Dillon Family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Oncology Departments of New Britain General Hospital and Grove Hill Medical Center, as well as the VNA Hospice Healthcare for all the care and compassion they extended to Ed. Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends, Friday, May 29, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Funeral procession from Farley-Sullivan will commence at 8:45am, Saturday, May 30, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ed’s life at 10am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Interment will follow the Mass in Village Cemetery (Hart Section), Marsh St., Old Wethersfield.
