Obituary for Edward J. "Ed" Clemens

Edward J. "Ed"  Clemens
Edward J. Clemens, 82, of Newington, beloved husband of 57 years to Brenda (Gunning) Clemens, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Hartford Hospital. Ed was born March 20, 1932 and raised in Hartford, the son of the late Walter and Kathryn (Roche) Clemens. He attended Hartford Schools graduating from Weaver High School, Class of 1950. He served our country during the Korean Conflict in the US Army, stationed in Germany. Ed returned from the military and began his career in the newspaper industry, as a Pressman working for the Hartford Times, then the New Britain Herald, and retiring from the Middletown Press. Ed enjoyed sports, attending many of his grandchildren’s events and was a big fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. In retirement, Ed and Brenda enjoyed many summers on the Rhode Island shore at Charlestown Beach. He was a faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation. In addition to his wife Brenda, Ed will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family, three daughters and their spouses, Kathryn and Daniel D’Addeo of East Haddam, Nancy and Kevin McHugh of Glastonbury, and Mary and Lou Iacobucci of Rocky Hill; and his six cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Lauren D’Addeo, Kelly and Brenna McHugh, and Krista and John Iacobucci. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his three siblings, William and Walter Clemens, and Mary Donohue. The family would like to thank Vida Kwaako for all her wonderful support. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Friday, February 20, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. The funeral procession will be held at 9:00 am Saturday, February 21, 2015 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ed’s life at 10:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Interment will follow the Mass in Holy Cross Cemetery 17 Wickham Rd., Glastonbury. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway #100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
