Edna Marie (Donaghue) Johnson, of West Hartford, widow of Vincent T. Johnson, passed away on October 29, 2014 after a short illness. Born in Hartford, Edna was the daughter of Daniel F. and Mary (Sullivan) Donaghue. She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and Hartford Secretarial School. Edna resided in West Hartford for 62 years. Edna received a citation from the Governor following the Hartford Circus Fire for assisting in the process of identification of family members. Until leaving to raise her family, Edna had been employed by the State of Connecticut as secretary to the Secretary of State. Later, she returned to the workforce and was employed as an Executive Secretary by the Hartford Board of Education, retiring at 74. Edna is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Timothy) Clemens of West Hartford, Diane (Robert) Fortin of Bloomfield, and Judith McGee of West Hartford. Edna derived great joy from her grandchildren, Timothy (Julie) Clemens, Lisa (Brent) Smith, Jonathan (Lisa) Clemens, Shane (Bonnie) McGee, Dean Vinci, as well as from her great grandchildren, Aaron and Corey Smith, Lily and Teagan Clemens, and Savannah McGee. Edna also leaves her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Donaghue of Bloomfield, in addition to numerous beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. Edna was predeceased by her sister, Gertrude (Benjamin) Francis, her brothers, Reverend Daniel Donaghue and Vincent Donaghue, and her cousins, Mother Mary Clotilde Sullivan, RSM and Edward Sullivan, as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Her family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. If desired, donations may be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the National MS Society, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112.
