Obituary for Christine "Chris" Console (Lisella)

Christine “Chris” (Lisella) Console, 88, of Wethersfield and Naples, FL, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21st at St. Francis Hospital. Chris was born on April 14, 1926 in the town of Sepino, Province of Campobosso, Italy. The eldest child of Giovanni and Giussepina (Parente) Lisella, she and her parents came to America when she was 2 years old. When she later visited Ellis Island, she was proud to see her family’s name on the list of arrivals. They settled on Front St. in Hartford, where she often said, “we had very little but we were happy.” Sunday trips with her father to tend his gardens in East Hartford were cherished memories. She graduated from Hartford Public High School in the Class of 1944. Chris worked very hard all of her life at various jobs in the Hartford area. She and her husband, Dominick, also owned and operated a limousine and hearse business. Affectionately known as “Momma” (after the comic strip character because of her size and comments) and “Rose” (from the movie Moonstruck), Chris was always there when she was needed. She cared most about helping others, and was a patient listener and sounding board to all who sought her advice. The kitchen table was the heart of her home, where all visitors were asked to “Sit down and eat something!” She loved Sunday breakfast and holidays with the family, lingering at the table, telling stories, laughing at movie lines, and reminiscing about the old days. Chris was a devoted member of St. Luke Church in Hartford and the Young Italians Club. Chris will be loved, missed, and fondly remembered by her family: her husband of 65 years, Dominick J. “Dom” Console; her three sons, Paul D. Console and his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Kennedy) Console of Trumbull, John J. Console and his wife, Laura Nash, of Wethersfield, and Mark A. Console of Wethersfield; her three adored and cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Kennedy Console of Naples, FL, Andrew John “AJ” Console, and Serena Mays Console, both of Wethersfield; her sister, Olivia (Lisella) Dignoti and her husband, Sebastian “Subby”, of Wethersfield; her nephew and “fourth son,” Anthony S. Dignoti and his family of Wethersfield; as well as her sister-in-law, Tina Lisella of Hartford; four nieces, Joanne (Console) Dembe of Bradenton, FL, Janet (Console) Allgire of San Mateo, CA, Josette Lisella of West Hartford, and Andrea Strada of Shelton; and nephew, Anthony Console of El Sobrante, CA. Along with her parents and several aunts and uncles, Chris was predeceased by her brother, Andrew Lisella. The Console family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to Msgr. Vittorio Guerrera for his spiritual support as well as Dr. Bamalin Lahiri, Dr. Joseph Sappington, and Dr. Robert Reginio and their staffs, in addition to the staff of St. Francis Hospital, for all the care and compassion they extended to Chris. Friends and relatives may pay their respects Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 5-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Chris’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 25th at 11am in St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St. Hartford with Msgr. Guerrera officiating. Attendees are asked to go directly to the Church. Cemetery Services will be Private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Chris’s name to St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford, CT 06114.
