Cassandra Vardal, 101, passed away Sunday February 10, 2013 at Genesis, Kimberly Hall North Nursing Home in Windsor, CT. and was a longtime resident of Wethersfield. She was predeceased by her husband Constantinos. Cassandra was born March 27, 1911 in Sokia, Domadia, Turkey and became a refugee to the island of Samos, Greece before coming to America. She leaves three children, Alexander Vardal and his wife Evanthea of Wethersfield, Manny Vardal and his wife Marilyn of Rocky Hill and Efhalia Frilingos of West Hartford. Cassandra also leaves nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and her beloved longtime friend Peggy Vaught of Hartford. Cassandra’s number one love was God and her family. She was a renowned family baker and cook and an avid lover of crochet. She made over one hundred blankets that were distributed to the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Boston, MA. For the needy. The funeral service will be held Wednesday February 13, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, Ct. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philaret Orthodox Mission Chapel, c/o Presbyter Michael Marcinowski, PO Box 136, 176 Summer St., Barre, MA. 01005.
