What a run . !!

It was 1951. I was 11 years old and Eddy was taking me to my first tennis tournament in New Haven. I remember it like yesterday as in the first round I lost 6-0, 6-0. I really did not understand what had happened, but Eddy did. You have to start at the bottom in many of life's challenges. I went on to be a top 10 player in N.E., captain of my H.S. and college teams, and even got into the US Open a couple of times. All of this I owe in a great part to my old Buddy Eddy. What a great run he had! His energy and personality were boundless, even with two lousy knees. I think about him often and I miss him like a lost part of myself. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Reids. He was the best. H. H. (Hobey) Hyde, Jr.
