Obituary for Ann Bloom (Feinbloom)

Ann (Feinbloom) Bloom, 83, of Glastonbury, CT, formerly of Watertown, MA, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Born in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late William and Mildred Feinbloom. She graduated from Syracuse University as a Voice Major. She spent the bulk of her adult years, raising her four children with her then husband, John E. Bloom in Dayton, Ohio. In the early 1980’s, she moved to the Boston area where she had an active and rich life.

An avid and wide reader, she became an elected member on the Board of the Watertown Free Library. A patron of the arts and a lover of music, she could be found frequenting the Boston Symphony, Jacob’s Pillow, Tanglewood, theatre, art museums and jazz performances. She had a multitude of hobbies: cooking, gardening, knitting and hanging out in local yarn stores, antiquing, thrift store browsing, and rooting for her beloved Red Sox. An ardent, progressive Democrat, she was a political activist at the local, state, and national level. Over the years she enjoyed traveling, with a special love of Italy, St. John, USVI, Martha’s Vineyard, and visiting her family in California, Virginia, New York, and Tennessee, as well as strolling around Fresh Pond in Belmont, MA. While living in Watertown, she was a member of the First Parish of Watertown Unitarian Universalist and Temple Israel of Boston.

A feisty, but charming talker, with a fine sense of humor, she was also a beauty with a stylish flair, a signature short hair cut and a love of fashion. She always had an open door and welcomed family, friends and strangers to share her home.

She is survived by her sister, Joan Rusitzky( Harris) of Rochester, NY, four children, Wendy Bloom, Berkeley, CA; David Bloom ( Dru Markle), Nashville, TN; Steven Bloom ( Elsie Kappler), McLean, VA; and Amy Holt (Ken), Glastonbury, CT; her eleven grandchildren, and 4 great grand children, her dear friend, Bessie Jackson, Dayton, OH, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the wonderful care givers of Brookdale Buckingham in Glastonbury, CT and her friend, Akousa (AK) Osei. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Watertown Free Library or The Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts chapter. A memorial is being planned for the Spring in the Boston Area
