Obituary for John Joseph "Jack" Lyons Jr.

John Joseph “Jack” Lyons, Jr. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Jack Lyons. Jack died on Thursday, October 29th, 2015. Born in Providence, April 28th, 1929, Jack grew up in Boston, raised his family in Wethersfield and moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1977. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, the Loyal order of Moose, BPOE order of Elks and a 1st degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack’s passion was insurance, especially training and developing agents. He retired after 28 years from Nationwide Insurance and continued to pursue his passion for teaching. Jack will be deeply missed by his children, John (Cynthia) Lyons III, Christopher Lyons, Jeanne (David) Delisle and Peter (Deborah) Lyons and his 8 grandchildren who adored him: Carolyn (Aaron), Hillary, Erin, Kelly, Sara and Peter Lyons and Bridget and Cortney Delisle. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marie and Geraldine, his brothers, William and Leo and his daughter-in-law Sue-Ellen Lyons. Jack also leaves behind dear friend and companion, Roberta Savely, sister-in-law Maureen, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Jack will be remembered for his quick wit, tremendous sense of humor and selfless generosity. No matter where Jack lived, he considered Wethersfield “home” where he coached the Redskins midget football team, was a little league coach and a founding member of the Wethersfield HS Football Boosters. Jack loved golf, his adopted Ohio State Buckeyes and was a lifelong Boston fan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, November 14th, at 11 am at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT with burial at the Village Cemetery in Old Wethersfield to follow. Memorial donations can be made to the Home Reach Hospice (Kobacker House) where Jack volunteered for 25 years, 180 E. Broad St, Columbus, OH 43215.
