Obituary for Richard Grace

Richard Grace
Richard B. Grace of Glastonbury, CT devoted husband of Elizabeth, peacefully passed away suddenly with his wife at his side on November 3 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Genevieve M. and James S. Grace on September 6, 1935. He attended St. Ephrem’s grammar school in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn where he served as an altar boy at the first Mass and continuing on to St. Michael’s H.S. He was extremely proud of his Jesuit education at St. Peter’s College in NJ where he received his BS degree. He also served in the National Guard. Dick had an extensive career in the Insurance industry, beginning with INA on Long Island. His marketing skills awarded him numerous prizes and awards, including a trip to London, England which he had to turn down because Liz didn’t like flying. He was promoted to Resident Vice President in the Hartford office in 1978 thus having to relocate to Connecticut, settling in Glastonbury. In 1982, he left INA which had become CIGNA, to become Regional Vice President with the Crum & Foster Commercial Ins. Co. in Glastonbury. He was an avid NY Yankees fan as well as the UCONN Women’s basketball team. Dick was a presence: he could talk about almost everything and with anyone. He brought laughter anywhere he went. He loved cruising, reading and watching his favorite TV shows from his favorite recliner. Besides his loving wife Liz, he is survived by a sister, Barbara Jones; 11 nieces and nephews and 21 grand nieces and grand nephews. Special thanks to our dear friends, the Kuschman family, for their unfailing support at this very difficult time. Calling hours are Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 3pm-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dick’s life will be Monday, November 9th at 10:00am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Interment will follow the Mass in the family plot in St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village (Queens), NY.
