Jacqueline “Jackie” (Stanton) Callahan was called home Sunday, September 13, 2015. Jackie was a Hartford native, born August 22, 1929 and raised in Hartford, attended the Hartford School System, graduating from Hartford High, at which time she began her work career which extended many years, first for the Travelers Insurance Co., the VA Administration in Hartford and then the VA Hospital in Newington, retiring in 1994. Jackie was a member of the Rocky Hill and Wethersfield Senior Centers. She was an avid reader, bingo player and loved her trips to the casino. She cherished the time she spent with her many friends from the Birthday Club and VA Retirees Club, with whom she held close to her heart as well as her loving family. Jackie will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family, a sister, Geraldine Biel; four children, Kathleen Rakus and her husband Richard, James Callahan Jr., Michael Callahan and Patricia Callahan; seven adored grandchildren, Christine Peruccio and her husband Marc, Katie Hallenbeck and her husband Al, Michael Rakus, Kerri Zongol, DJ Zongol, Stacy Hacker and her husband Frank, and Richard Rakus II; eight cherished great grandchildren, Hannah, Julia, Kylee, Ella, Anthony, Rylee, Kaeleigh and Emma; as well as a special nephew, Bruce Biel. In addition to her parents and husband, Jackie was predeceased by a brother Edward Stanton. The Callahan family wishes to express their love and gratitude to the staff of Salmon Brook Center and Masonicare for giving Jackie the opportunity to go to God with grace and dignity. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Callahan family, Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 8:30-10:00am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jackie’s life will be at 11am in St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Interment will follow the Mass in Village Cemetery, Marsh St., Old Wethersfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project®, P.O.
