Obituary for Michael H. "Mike" Heneghan

Michael “Mike” Hughes Heneghan, of Rocky Hill, a loving and wonderful husband of 48 years to Stephanie (Lowry) Heneghan, peacefully passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at home. Mike was born in Hartford, July 22, 1940 to John F. and Hildagarde (Hughes) Heneghan. He attended St. Joseph Grammar school then spent 2 years at Cathedral High School during which time he pitched for the CYO baseball team that won the New England championship and received the outstanding player award. Mike transferred to Hartford Public High School, where he pitched for the school baseball team, graduated with honors and was recognized by the National Honor Society. From there Mike attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where he continued his pitching, playing with the team that was 1 of 8 nation-wide to play in the College World Series in Omaha, NB. Mike earned his LLB at George Washington University School of Law in Washington, D.C. then returned to Hartford, where he practiced law for 48 years, first with the firm of Heneghan, Pikor and Hebb then with Heneghan, Kennedy and Doyle. He was counsel to the Connecticut Gaming Commission for 3 years and to the Town of Rocky Hill for 17 years. An active member of the Rocky Hill Democratic Town Committee, he served 4 years on the Town Council. Along with his wife and best friend Stephanie, Mike leaves his two daughters, Laura Button and grandson Jack, Katerie, with her husband Lawrence Ward, and grandchildren Aidan and Emerson, his son Patrick with his wife Karen Marlett. He also leaves three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Bob, Hugh, Al, Pat and Merri; as well as seven nieces and nephews, who round out the extended family and who made family celebration memories, in particular Christmas and family reunions, special over the years in Connecticut and Virginia. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a sister-in-law Marianne. Mike enjoyed years of sailing Long Island Sound with family, charter sailing trips with friends, too many to mention, and any time spent on Block Island. A sports enthusiast, he followed Red Sox baseball and UConn basketball over the years. Mike’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. In honor of Mike’s instructions, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mike’s life will be held Monday September 14th at 10:30am in St. James Roman Catholic Church, 676 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. A reception in the Parish Hall will immediately follow the Mass. A private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
