Royal Willis "Will"  Hanson
Royal Willis “Will” Hanson, 73, of Cromwell, beloved husband of Donna (Schwalm) Maher Hanson, entered into eternal rest after a long and valiant battle with cancer on Monday, August 31, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Hartford, October 6, 1941, son to the late Royal W. and Eva (McGee) Hanson. Will grew up in Hartford, attended and graduated from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1959. He continued his education attending classes for Architectural Drafting at Hillyer College. Will entered the United States Air Force, serving his country with pride from 1960 to 1964. After his military duty, he then joined Southern New England Telephone Co. retiring in 2001. During his retirement, he worked with a master mason, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Will had a special place in his heart for vacationing with his relatives on the Richelieu River in Canada. He shared many happy hours with his sister, her children and grandchildren. After marrying Donna, Will experienced many wonderful adventures, cruising to Alaska, Hawaii, Spain, Italy and a beautiful Rhine River cruise. He also loved spending time with his devoted step children; either attending their musical activities, cycling, gymnastics, hockey games as well as helping them around their homes. Along with his wife Donna, Will is fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving family; his step children, Kirsten Kelley, and her children Christopher and Kyle, of Wethersfield, Erik Maher and his wife Jill, and their children Hope and Lane, of Harwinton, Jonathan Maher and his wife Tanya, and their children Abby and Sarah, of North Granby. In addition, Will also leaves his dear sister Judith Izikewicz, and her husband Randall; niece Kimberly Vaillancourt, her husband David, and their sons Nick and Evan; two nephews, Stephen F. Willard Jr. his wife Celeste, and their daughter Sophia, and Joshua Willard, and his wife Cheri, and their sons Joshua and Jacob. Friends may call on the family Friday September 4, 2015 from 5-8pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Memorial Service celebrating Will’s life will be held Saturday September 5, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington, CT 06111. All attendees are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. To extend online condolences, please visit farleysullivan.com.
