Obituary for Edward Guzek

Edward Guzek, 89, of Wethersfield, husband of Eugenia (Mueller) Guzek passed away peacefully Thursday July 9, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born March 4, 1926 in Lowell, Massachusetts, he was the 2nd son of Stanislaw and Karolina (Branska) Guzek. At the age of 4, the family left the U.S. to settle in Poland. Returning to the U.S. in 1957, he settled in Hartford then moved to Wethersfield where he and his family resided for 48 years. Edward was employed by the Metropolitan District for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, a member of the Golden Senior Club, the Ellis Island Foundation, the MDC 25 Year Club and the Polish American Congress. Edward is survived by his wife Eugenia; two daughters, Mary G. McDermid, Irene B. Guzek; two sons Wesley Guzek and wife Karin, Stan Guzek and his wife Trish Bowen; as well as a sister Wanda Wojcik in Poland. He was predeceased by a brother Thaddeus Guzek. Edward was a devoted family man, never happier then when surrounded by his beloved Genia and their children at the dining room table. He was a man passionate about music, history and politics. A fervent anti-communist, Edward suffered dearly under the communist regime in Poland in order to protect his family. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Guzek family, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 10-11am, at which time the funeral procession will proceed to SS.
