Ruth Charlene (Rugg) Page, beloved wife of Howard L. Page of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully Monday March 9, 2015 in St. Francis Hospital. Charlene was born on May 9, 1927, daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary (Hines) Rugg in Worcester, MA. She graduated as a Cadet Nurse at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, MA., achieved her B.S. in Nursing Ed. at the University of Vermont, M.S. in Vocational Ed. at Central Connecticut State University and her 6th year degree at the University of Connecticut. Charlene retired from the Hartford Board of Education and in her earlier years worked as an RN, including Army Hospital at the West Point Military Academy. She was a member of the Auxiliary American Legion, was active with the First Church of Christ as an usher and chairman of the Deacons, among other volunteer duties. She was also active in community affairs, collecting for the Wethersfield Food Bank with Howard. Charlene loved cardinals, reading, traveling and playing cards. She is saving a place at the bridge table in the Paradise Lounge for the rest of her foursome. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons and a daughter; David Page and his wife Kathy of San Francisco, CA, Susan (Page) Becker and her husband Robert of West Orange, NJ and Mitch Page and his wife Lynn of Newington. Charlene also leaves six beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Mia, Jonathan, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Christopher and a sister Lucie (Rugg) Alderman and her husband Arnold of AZ. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Scottie and Wally Ferrier.
A Memorial Service in Charlene’s honor will be celebrated at 11:00am on March 21, 2015 in First Church of Christ, 250 Main St., Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield has care of the arrangements.
