Obituary for George M. Schock

George M. Schock, 78, beloved husband of Marilyn (Reardon) Schock to whom he was married for 57 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in White County, Indiana on July 25, 1936, and lived in Manchester and Hartford before moving to East Hartford in 1962. He worked at Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) for 32 years, and was the Building Maintenance Supervisor when he retired in 1998. A street rod enthusiast, he was a former member of The Carbs of Hartford and Over-The-Hill-Gang car clubs, and an active member of The Connecticut Street Legends. He enjoyed attending car shows with his friends, traveling to Ireland six times with family, building and spending time at his family home in Vermont, and being with his grandchildren. George was an excellent handyman who could build or fix anything. George was predeceased by his parents, Audrey (Thompson) Eaton and Norman Eaton. In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his children, Julie and Mike Godart of Rocky Hill, Ellen and Tom Silva of Glastonbury, Mary Kay and Rick Hyman of Glastonbury, and Steven and Laurie Schock of Granby. He also leaves his 11 grandchildren, Megan Godart, Marie Godart, Katie Silva, Kerry Silva, Alison Silva, Gregory Silva, Sarah Hyman, Molly Hyman, Ethan Schock, Sam Schock, and Natalie Schock. He is also survived by his brother Albert and Gail Eaton of Manchester. George was loved by all who met him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His heartfelt “I love you” will be deeply missed. Calling hours will be Friday (February 13) from 4-8 p.m. at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (February 14) at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford, with burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Glastonbury. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
