Helen (Digertt) Flaherty, 90, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late James F. Flaherty, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2015. Helen was born and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late Michael and Bronislava (Makula) Digertt. She resided in the Hartford area all of her life. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Para Professional for the City of Hartford Board of Education. She enjoyed the time she would spend with her family, as well as her Thursday Girls’ Lunch Club. Helen will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family; two sons, Jeff Flaherty and his wife Diane, of Rocky Hill, Brian Flaherty and his wife Andrea, of FL.; a daughter Wendy Albert of Cromwell; brother and sister-in-law, John and Lucille Digertt of Newington; a sister-in-law, Theresa Flaherty of Newington; her adored grandchildren, Ryan Flaherty, Elizabeth Marti and her husband Anthony and Leslie DeNovellis and her husband David; as well as her six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her sister Mary Dowling. The Flaherty family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of the Atria Greenridge Place for all the kindness, caring and friendship they extended to Helen. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. The funeral procession will form at Farley-Sullivan Thursday, January 8th beginning at 9am, and will proceed to St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Helen’s life. Helen will be interred next to James in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section H), 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
