Obituary for Philip L. Smith

Philip L. Smith, 72, of South Glastonbury, beloved husband of Kathryn (Boris) Smith, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 21, 2014 in Hartford Hospital. Philip was born May 22, 1942 in New Britain, son of the late Everett M. and Dorothy (Hale) Smith. He was a United States Army Veteran who served our country during the Vietnam War. Philip attended Nichols College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Forestry. This led him to employment as an Inspector with the State of Connecticut DEEP. He was a devoted family man who cherished all the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as his extended family. In addition to his wife Kathryn, Philip will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family; a son, Christopher Hale Smith and his wife Estella, of New Britain; a daughter Carrie Leigh Waskowicz and her husband Alan, of Southington; a step-daughter Amy L. Neri and her husband David, of Wallingford; his adored grandchildren, Bradley J. Boris, Jared C. Smith, Caleigh M. Waskowicz, Zachary A. Waskowicz, Matthew Neri, William Neri, Anthony Neri, Beth Ingraham, and Mark Ingraham; his sister, Alison Buckwell and her husband James, of Danbury, NH; his cousin Joyce H. Yarrow and her spouse Debra L. Collins, of Middletown; as well as his four cherished nephews, Donald, David, Raymond, and Douglas Buckwell. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family on Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 10-11am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury with a Memorial Service at 11am in the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the Service in the CT Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. The Smith family requests in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations in Philip's name are suggested to the CT ALS Association, 4 Oxford Road, Milford, CT 06460.
