Obituary for William J. Bumster Jr.

William James Bumster Jr, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday October 22, 2014. Bill was born and raised in Hartford. He attended the University of Connecticut and went on to UConn Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He was a prominent attorney with his own practice in Wethersfield. Bill served in the Connecticut Army National Guard for many years. Along with his late wife, Eileen Dillon Bumster, Bill became an avid cross-country skier, where the two enjoyed many years and wonderful times at their beloved home in southern VT, spending countless weekends and holidays entertaining family and friends with their endless generosity and gracious hospitality. He was a fan of UConn's men's and women's basketball teams, and was also a Boston Red Sox fan. At a young age, Bill became a caddy at the Wethersfield Country Club, where he later became a member and regular golfer, as well as being a member of the Manchester Vermont Country Club. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen Dillon Bumster, and his niece Karen Pfaffenbach. He leaves his sister Rita Barry of Farmington, CT, two nephews, George Cooper and his wife Kathy of North Carolina, and Kevin Barry of Pine Meadow, CT; six nieces, Ann Dillon of Maine, Pamela Shores and her husband Fred, Peggy Hobson and her husband Tom, all of East Hampton, CT, Bunny Brown and husband Steve of North Carolina, Colleen Michaelson of Farmington, CT and Joanne Scanlon and her husband Donny of Rocky Hill, CT, along with several grand nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Sunday October 26, 2014 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday October 27, 2014 at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT. All attendees are asked to go directly to church. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Norfolk, CT. To extend online expressions of sympathy, please visit Farleysullivan.com. Bill was very fortunate to have wonderful home care givers, Robert, Bobby and Vincent; especially Bobby whose endless patience and kindness allowed Bill to remain in the comfort of his home, where family and friends could visit and spend time with him.
