Carol Moriarty (Linehan)
Carol (Linehan) Moriarty, 88, formerly of Wethersfield and Rocky Hill, widow of William J. Moriarty, died peacefully Wednesday, October 22 at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford. This lovely Christmas Carol was born December 25, 1925 in Middletown, to Thomas F. and Mary (Lemieux) Linehan. A graduate of Middletown High School, Saint Joseph College and Columbia University, she enjoyed a 20-year career teaching kindergarten and nursery school in Hartford and Wethersfield. She was an active community volunteer, including many years of service as a home hospice volunteer and meals-on-wheels deliverer for the VNA and as a kitchen helper at the House of Bread. A long-time parishioner of Incarnation Church in Wethersfield, she served variously on the parish council, the social action committee, and the Women’s Club board of directors. She also served as a parish representative to the St. Agnes Guild, facilitated a Small Christian Community faith-sharing group and, for over 30 years, sang with the choir. Carol leaves her four children and their families: William Moriarty, M.D. and wife Elaine Dunham of Coos Bay, Oregon and their sons Thomas, Jameson and William; John Moriarty and wife Jo Anne Wetherell-Moriarty of Shoreview, Minnesota and their children Caitlin and Daniel; Anne Moriarty Reiher, M.D. and husband Herbert Reiher, M.D. of Windsor and their sons Patrick and Timothy; and Mary Joy (M.J.) Moriarty and husband Keith Hughes of West Hartford and their son James. She leaves two beloved sisters-in-law, Betty Hogan-Oleksak of Old Saybrook and Dorothy Linehan of Cromwell and ten nieces and nephews and their families, including Mary Hogan of Rocky Hill. She also leaves many devoted friends, including the “Church and Coffee” ladies of Incarnation. In addition to her husband Bill, she was predeceased by her sister Margaret Monnes, brother Thomas Linehan, and niece Jo Anne Monnes. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of West One at Saint Mary Home for their loving care of Carol the past three years.
