Obituary for Agostinho "Gus" Loura

Agostinho “Gus” Loura, 65, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband of Joan (Lavertue) Loura, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 07, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side, after a nine year battle with cancer. Gus was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on October 19, 1948, son of the late Manuel B. and Maria (Morais) Loura and moved to America in 1962 settling in Connecticut. Prior to his retirement in 2002, he was dedicated employee of King Construction for 34 years. He was a faithful communicant of St. James Church in Rocky Hill. The most important part of Gus’s life was his love of family, most especially his grandchildren, as well as his garden. He always had time to show them love and support in any way he could. His greatest pleasure was taking his grandchildren to his favorite spot, McDonalds, along with family summer vacations. Gus’s philosophy of life was “do something even if it is wrong”. In addition to his wife Joan, Gus will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family; his son, Steven Loura; two daughters and their spouses, Michelle and Michael DeCarlo, Denise and Michael Perez; six adored grandchildren, Morgan and Mason DeCarlo, Jacob and Josh Perez, Andrew and Nathan Loura; as well as his nine brothers and two sisters, Antonio, Jose, Manuel, Ernesto, Victor, John, Louie, Evaristo, and Arthur Loura, Maria Pina, and Connie Ferreira. In addition to his parents, Gus was predeceased by a cherished granddaughter, Emma Perez. The family would like to express special thanks to Drs. Timothy Hong and Gregory Boniauto for their care. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Loura family, Wednesday July 9, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Gus’s life will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 9:30 am in St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill (all attendees are asked to go directly to the Church).
