He was born in New Haven in 1931 to George and Katherine (McNerney) Sullivan and raised in the South End of Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (O’Connell) Sullivan for 53 years. Bill attended St. Augustine Elementary School and graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1949. The South End held a special place in Bill’s heart with his many friends and rounds of golf at Goodwin Park Golf Course. If you look closely you can even find his 8th grade basketball picture adorning the walls of First and Last Tavern. Following high school he joined the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict (1950-1952). Afterwards, earning his undergraduate degree from Villanova University where he met his roommate and lifelong friend Dave Burns. He went on to earn an MBA from the University of Connecticut and soon after obtained his CPA. Bill began his business career as an accountant with Ernst & Ernst and later was employed by Arbor Acres Farm where he became the Controller. He then joined Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company where he was the Vice President of Corporate Accounting and Reporting until his retirement in 1995.

Bill also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Mary Kate, Sean, Emily, Matthew, Thomas, Collin, Ryan and Patrick. Bill was a faithful parishioner of The Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. His many interests included reading, attending the Bushnell, Big East Basketball and the Red Sox. Bill was an enthusiastic supporter of sports, but he especially enjoyed watching and coaching his children in the Wethersfield Youth leagues. This support extended to his eight grandchildren as he was often seen on the side lines at multiple games throughout the weekend. Bill was a life member of the Connecticut Society of CPA’s, Hartford Elks #19 and the Irish American Home Society Inc. He used his skills as a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford, an IRS-Tax Return volunteer, and was the treasurer of the town of Marlborough.
