William R. Leach, 91, husband of the late Joanne (Terry) Leach, of Glastonbury, passed away October 1, 2022 in Hartford Hospital. He was born in Glastonbury, son of the late William and Katherine (Ciba) Leach, and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1949. After high school, he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.William began working at a young age, first at Buckley & Camp Grocery, moving on to Top Notch Foods before beginning a 25-year career with the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles as a Toll Collector on the Putnam Bridge until the tolls were removed, finishing at DMV Headquarters. He liked going to the casino to play bingo, watching UConn Women’s Basketball and enjoyed his weekly trips to the town dump where he would bump into old friends. Most of all, he enjoyed playing cards and hanging out on the porch with family and friends.
Bill leaves his daughters, Shelley Guerrera and her husband Salvatore of East Hartford and Beth LeDuc and her husband Andrew of East Hartford, his daughter-in-law Mary Carneiro of TX, and known as “Grandpa Bill” to Joseph Guerrera and his wife Christine and Nicole Melquist and Joel Lucas. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Frances Morneault and her husband Phillip as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, William was predeceased by his son, Kevin W. Leach, his sisters, Helen Kocum, Gladys Johnson, Joanne Cole, Dolly Kittle and Lillian Johnson and his brothers, Theodore Leach, Frank (Red) Leach, and Raymond (Gabby) Leach.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 11:00am in Saint Paul Church of SS Isidore & Maria Parish, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 1 Wickham Road, Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
