William “Billy” Patrick Howley, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 78 on Wednesday afternoon at Middlesex Hospital. Billy was born to Cecilia (Fahey) Howley and Michael Howley in Ballina, Ballyglunin, Tuam, County Galway on March 14, 1942. The seventh of nine children, Billy was predeceased by sister, Sr. Eileen, and brothers, Tom, Jim, Patrick “Paddy”, and Michael “Mickey” and is survived by his brother Ned, and sisters, Julia Foley and Mary Mitchell who hold dear his memory.
Billy arrived in New York, a young immigrant eager to start his life and contribute to the texture and culture of our country. Billy met a fetching young woman at a church dance in Brooklyn, NY. Billy married Kathleen Conway on September 10, 1966 and settled in Connecticut where they raised five children. Billy was a proud Union carpenter where he was a member of Local 43 for over 50 years. Billy loved his Irish culture and was a Lifetime Member of the Irish American Home in Glastonbury. Spending time with his fellow countrymen was one of his greatest joys. Billy loved to hear his wife sing traditional Irish songs. He enjoyed GAA Irish Football and Hurling, a was passionate supporter of the Galway teams. He was also a fan of the Red Sox, The Patriots and UConn Basketball. Billy was an ardent Democrat who was looking forward to a brighter future for America.
Billy is survived by, his wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Conway) and his five children Theresa (Ken) Miffitt, Maureen (Doug) Goulet, Kathleen (David) Sudol, Michael Howley, and Bernadette Howley, seven grandchildren, Siobhán Climer and Maeve Barton, Kara And Joseph Miffitt, Grace and Clara Sudol, Natalie Howley and two great-grandchildren Ceilidh and Fionnuala Climer. Billy always told his children, “when I sleep, I dream of Ireland”. May he forever slumber in his beloved homeland.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 10am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be livestreamed at FarleySullivan.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you simply raise your glass to toast Billy. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Glastonbury, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
